Eswatini hosts 20th SAIMSA Games for Southern African municipalities

Eswatini has officially opened the 2026 Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) Games at the Mavuso Sports and Exhibition Centre. This 20th anniversary edition brings together delegates from 55 municipalities across Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Eswatini.

Beyond athletic competition, the Games serve as a platform for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange among municipal leaders. Officials highlighted the opportunity for municipalities to share practical approaches to urban planning, waste management, infrastructure maintenance, and local economic development.

The event coincides with significant national milestones in Eswatini, including the Ruby Jubilee of King Mswati III, marking 40 years on the throne. The tournament features over 12 competitive sporting codes, with festivities including football, cycling, and aerobics.
