Eswatini municipalities address service delivery and urban growth

Municipal authorities in Eswatini are addressing various service delivery and urban development challenges. In Siteki, the Town Council reported that outstanding municipal rates rose to E29.78 million for the 2024/2025 financial year, up from E27.15 million the previous year. The Council noted that delayed payments from individuals, businesses, and government entities are hindering the effective delivery of essential services such as road maintenance, waste collection, and street-light repairs.

Meanwhile, the Mbabane Municipal Council is focusing on transforming the capital into a smarter and cleaner city. CEO Gciniwe Fakudze outlined priorities including infrastructure rehabilitation, such as drainage and pedestrian walkways, and the advancement of a green economy through sustainable waste management practices. The council is also supporting local enterprise through micro-grant funding for young entrepreneurs.
