Eswatini public transport fares increase by up to 38%

Public transport operators in Eswatini have implemented fare increases of up to 38.46 per cent, citing economic pressures and a return to maximum rates established in a 2022 gazette. On the Manzini-Ekukhanyeni route, for example, fares rose from E13 to E18.

Commuters have expressed significant concern, noting that the sudden hike places a heavy financial burden on households, particularly for daily school and work travel. While some operators, such as Jojo Lobovu Bus, state the increase is necessary to cover escalating business costs, passengers have appealed for lower increases or greater consultation to mitigate the impact of rising living costs.
