Eswatini Railway launches campaign to prioritize safety culture

Eswatini Railway has launched its 2026 Railway Safety Week campaign, emphasizing that the preservation of human life must take precedence over operational targets, commercial interests, and financial achievements. During the launch in Manzini, company leadership called for a robust safety culture that involves management, employees, contractors, and the general public.

Officials from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Manzini Regional Administration stressed that safety awareness must extend beyond corporate boardrooms and into local communities to prevent accidents and protect vital infrastructure. The ministry highlighted the economic importance of the railway in facilitating trade and urged local chiefs to assist in preventing the vandalism of railway assets.

Eswatini Railway’s Safety, Health Risk and Quality manager reported ongoing challenges with motorist behavior at level crossings, noting that recent observations showed a significant lack of compliance among drivers. The company plans to intensify awareness campaigns and level-crossing education to mitigate these risks.
