Eswatini retailers volunteer for digital e-invoicing pilot

Retail and wholesale companies in Eswatini have volunteered to participate in the pilot phase of the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) Fiscalisation Project. This e-invoicing initiative aims to transition the country from manual, paper-based processes to a standardized digital system where transactions are generated, transmitted, and validated in real or near-real time.

During a high-level engagement convened by Business Eswatini (BE) on September 3, 2026, businesses raised practical concerns regarding the implementation. Key issues included the integration of e-invoicing with existing accounting and point-of-sale systems, the costs associated with the transition, and the need for appropriate transitional arrangements.

The ERS expects the project to improve tax accuracy, reduce errors, and strengthen voluntary compliance. Business Eswatini emphasized that the project’s success depends on an implementation process that is practical, proportionate, and responsive to the varying technological capabilities of businesses across the country.
