ETFs see significant growth in Brazilian investment portfolios
Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are experiencing significant growth in the Brazilian market. According to data from Anbima, the category grew by 38.8% in the first half of 2026, with retail segments seeing an increase of 41.3% and private segments rising by 31%.
In Brazil, 204 ETFs were listed on the B3 as of June, with assets under management totaling R$ 126 billion. A notable example is the BOVA11, which replicates the Ibovespa index and holds approximately R$ 14 billion in assets.
While ETFs offer advantages such as diversification, low costs, and tax optimization, the market is expanding into more complex and thematic areas. In the United States, the market is much larger, with over US$ 15 trillion allocated across thousands of funds. Recent trends include thematic ETFs focused on innovation, such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, as well as leveraged and inverse funds that track specific indices like the Nasdaq-100.
