Ethan Butera joins Sporting Hasselt following Ajax departure

Ethan Butera has joined Belgian club Sporting Hasselt on a free transfer, signing a contract that runs until 2028. The 20-year-old defender moves to the Challenger Pro League side following the expiration of his contract with Ajax.

Butera previously joined Ajax from RSC Anderlecht in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of 1.5 million euros. However, his time in Amsterdam was significantly hindered by persistent injuries, which prevented him from making a breakthrough into the Ajax first team. During his tenure, he primarily featured for Jong Ajax, accumulating limited playing time in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

Before his move to the Netherlands, Butera developed through the youth ranks at RWDM Brussels and Anderlecht. He is capable of playing as both a left-back and a central defender.
