Ethan Hawke discusses career-defining role and family ties to Romania

Actor Ethan Hawke has reflected on his career and his family's humanitarian connection to Romania. In a recent interview, Hawke identified the 2001 film ‘Tape’ (released as ‘Amargo Reencontro’ in some regions) as the role that most significantly impacted his life, describing it as his gateway to adult acting.

Beyond his filmography, Hawke highlighted the legacy of his mother, Leslie Hawke, who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Romania at age 48. During her time in the Bacău region, she worked with impoverished families and children. Her experiences led to the creation of The Alex Fund in the United States to support disadvantaged children in Romania, as well as the co-founding of the organization OvidiuRo, which focuses on educational initiatives.
