Ethan Hawke to narrate sequel documentary on Texas rivers

Actor Ethan Hawke will narrate the upcoming documentary "Deep in the Heart 2: Texas Rivers," a sequel to the 2022 film narrated by Matthew McConaughey. The 80‑minute feature is directed by Texas‑born filmmaker Ben Masters and is slated for theatrical release on September 25.

The film follows Masters and his crew as they explore major Texas waterways—including the Rio Grande, Sabine River, Neches River, Pecos, Llano and Guadalupe—capturing wildlife such as otters, snapping turtles, mountain lions and whooping cranes. Conservation is a central theme, inviting audiences to consider how to protect these ecosystems.

Hawke, an Austin native known for roles in "Dead Poets Society" and "Boyhood," has a history of environmental advocacy, adding his voice to the project’s ecological focus.
