Ethan Mbappé suspended for three Champions League matches

Ethan Mbappé has received a three-match suspension from UEFA following a red card during Lille OSC’s Champions League match against Real Betis. The 19-year-old midfielder was sent off in the 56th minute after delivering an elbow to the face of Brazilian defender Natan. While the incident was initially missed by the referee, a VAR review led to the direct expulsion.

As a result of the sanction, Mbappé will miss Lille’s upcoming European fixtures, including the match against Arsenal on October 13, the home game against Galatasaray on October 21, and the away match at Bodø/Glimt on November 3. He is expected to be eligible for selection again on November 25 for the match against Bayern Munich.

The incident occurred during a match where Lille ultimately lost 2-3 to Betis. Despite the disciplinary setback, Mbappé had been a key performer earlier in the game, providing an assist for Ayase Ueda’s opening goal in the 12th minute.
