Ethan Nwaneri faces criticism following Borussia Dortmund performance

Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri has faced criticism from German media following a scoreless 0-0 draw between Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin. Despite earning the trust of manager Niko Kovac to secure his fourth consecutive Bundesliga start, the 19-year-old struggled to impact the game, failing to record an assist or a goal.

During the match, Nwaneri narrowly avoided a red card in the opening minute when referee Daniel Schlager mistakenly brandished a red card for a tackle before correcting the decision to a yellow card. Statistical analysis of his performance showed he won only four of his 11 duels and failed to complete a single chance.

Local media outlets have been critical of his impact. Ruhr Nachrichten gave him a player rating of 5/10, stating he was ‘no help’ and made poor decisions, while Ruhr 24 suggested that in his current form, he is ‘not an asset’ to the team.
