Ethan Salas hits first MLB triple for San Diego Padres
Ethan Salas recorded his first Major League Baseball hit with a triple during the San Diego Padres' 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The 20-year-old Venezuelan catcher hit the ball against the right-field wall off Giants pitcher Logan Webb in the fourth inning.
Salas set several age-related milestones with the performance. He became the youngest player in Giants franchise history to hit a triple and the youngest MLB catcher to record a triple as a first career hit since Ricky Seilheimer in 1980. Additionally, he is the youngest player to hit a triple as a first career hit since Manny Machado achieved the feat in 2012.
Prior to his call-up, Salas was a highly-rated prospect who performed strongly in Triple-A with the El Paso Chihuahuas. He made his MLB debut earlier this month.
