Ethan Salas makes MLB history as youngest catcher debutant since 1991

Venezuelan prospect Ethan Salas made his Major League Baseball debut on September 2 with the San Diego Padres. At 20 years and 93 days old, Salas became the youngest catcher to debut in the MLB since Iván Rodríguez in 1991.

During the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Salas started as the catcher and batted sixth. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in a 7-3 loss. His debut marks a significant milestone for Venezuelan baseball, as he is the youngest Venezuelan catcher to play in the big leagues, surpassing the previous record held by Francisco Álvarez.

Salas is also the sixth youngest player in the history of the San Diego Padres organization and the 59th player from the Águilas del Zulia team to reach the Major Leagues.
