Ethan Salas sets MLB record with two home runs
Venezuelan catcher Ethan Salas made Major League Baseball history on Wednesday night, becoming the youngest catcher to hit two home runs in a single game. At 20 years and 107 days old, Salas broke a record held by Butch Wynegar since 1976.
Playing for the San Diego Padres against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Salas hit a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run blast in the fifth. His performance contributed to a 9-3 victory for the Padres, helping the team extend its lead in the National League Wild Card race.
Salas, a top prospect who signed with the Padres for $5.6 million in 2023, recorded two runs and three RBIs during the game. He is also the youngest catcher to homer in the majors since Iván Rodríguez in 1991.
