Ethan Suplee recalls addiction struggles in Hayden Panettiere tribute
Actor Ethan Suplee has shared personal reflections on his past struggles with drug addiction in a tribute to his late ‘Remember the Titans’ co-star, Hayden Panettiere. Writing on Substack following Panettiere’s death at age 36 from an apparent overdose, Suplee recalled the night of the film’s premiere in September 2000.
Suplee disclosed that he used heroin during the premiere events at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, noting that he felt a sense of inadequacy regarding his role in the film. He described going to a bathroom to smoke heroin and stated that while he did not die of an overdose that night, he went to bed believing he would not wake up.
In his tribute, Suplee highlighted Panettiere’s presence as a source of comfort during that difficult evening. He recalled her hugging him on the red carpet and later as they left the stadium, noting that her energy provided him with a moment of genuine relief and lightness.
