Ethel Caterham has become the world's oldest living person at age 117. She assumed the title following the death of Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas, who was 116.

Caterham, born in the United Kingdom in 1909, attributes her longevity to a conflict-free lifestyle. She noted in a statement to ABC News that she avoids arguments, though she maintains that she rarely compromises her views to keep the peace.

Her life has included significant travels, such as working as a nanny in India, where she met her late husband, Norman. She is currently supported by her three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
