Ethereum eyes UTXO model for 1,000x scaling

Ethereum researchers are exploring a hybrid state model that combines UTXO-style structures with dynamic state to achieve a target of 1,000x scaling. This approach aims to address the challenge of state growth, which currently expands by approximately 100 GB annually. By implementing native UTXOs, researchers suggest that permanent payment-state usage could be reduced by 99.8%, potentially shrinking one billion entries to roughly 300 MB.
The broader roadmap for hyperscaling includes using ZK-EVMs for 1,000x execution scaling, PeerDAS and blobs for 500x data scaling, and recursive STARKs to manage bandwidth and aggregation. The goal is to scale network activity substantially while maintaining decentralization, censorship resistance, and efficient node operation.
