Ethereum faces resistance near $2,800 amid shifting market sentiment

Ethereum (ETH) is navigating a period of consolidation and mixed signals as it enters October. The cryptocurrency is trading near the $2,680–$2,700 range, facing significant resistance between $2,750 and $2,800. A successful breakout above $2,800 is viewed by analysts as a necessary step toward a $3,000 target, while $2,600 remains a critical support level.

Several factors are influencing market dynamics. Social sentiment has reached its lowest point since June, with bearish commentary currently outperforming bullish discussions on platforms like X, Telegram, and Reddit. Additionally, institutional interest has cooled, with U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recording approximately $118 million in net outflows over a recent week.

On the technical side, the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to activate on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, which will introduce changes to block construction and gas pricing. Meanwhile, trading activity is heavily dominated by Binance futures, with spot volume representing only about 8% of total turnover. Despite the bearish sentiment and ETF outflows, some analysts suggest the current pessimism could present a contrarian entry opportunity.
