Ethereum Foundation-linked wallets transfer $11 million in ETH to Kraken

Two digital wallets linked to early Ethereum Foundation distributions moved 4,393 ETH, valued at approximately $11.1 million, to the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange on October 12, 2026.

On-chain data from trackers such as EmberCN and Lookonchain indicates that the funds originated from addresses that received large amounts of Ether from the Ethereum Foundation roughly a decade ago. One specific wallet involved has a long history of routing funds to Kraken, having sent approximately 49,751 ETH to the exchange over the last ten years.

While the movement of funds to an exchange can precede a sale, analysts note that the wallets are several steps removed from the Foundation's current treasury. The Ethereum Foundation has historically used centralized exchanges for operational purposes, and it remains unclear whether this specific transfer is intended for liquidity, future projects, or other operational needs. Neither the Ethereum Foundation nor Kraken has issued a public statement regarding the transaction.
