Ethereum Institutional nonprofit launches to attract banks
Ethereum Institutional, an independent nonprofit, officially launched on July 1 2026 as a dedicated front door for the Ethereum ecosystem to engage banks, asset managers, custodians and other large financial institutions. The organization consolidates a year of enterprise outreach previously handled by the Ethereum Foundation’s go‑to‑market team and is funded by BitMine Immersion Technologies, SharpLink, and Ethereum co‑founder Joe Lubin, along with dozens of other contributors.
The nonprofit claims to have built more than 500 institutional relationships and convened an Institutional Ethereum Forum that gathered over 150 senior executives representing roughly $250 trillion in assets under management. Its initial focus areas include institutional education, market intelligence, ecosystem marketing, standards development and events, with geographic hubs in New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore and plans to add Zurich, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Abu Dhabi.
Ethereum Institutional’s launch follows the June 22 debut of Ethlabs, a separate nonprofit research lab, reflecting a broader strategy by the Ethereum Foundation to spin off specialized entities. The move comes as Ethereum hosts about $180 billion in stablecoins (around 60 % of global supply) and a majority of tokenized real‑world assets, even while Ether’s price hovers near $1,620, well below its recent highs.
