Ethereum Name Service launches ENSv2 on mainnet

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) has officially launched ENSv2 on the Ethereum mainnet. The upgrade introduces individual registries for subnames, allowing for separate permissions when managing them.

Existing .eth names remain functional and do not require re-registration. However, eligible holders can choose to upgrade their names through the redesigned ENS App to access new capabilities. As part of the launch, ENS Labs is offering an optional commemorative NFT for wallets that were eligible based on a June 1, 2026, snapshot, with a limit of one collectible per eligible wallet.

The release follows an activation proposal by founder Nick Johnson. The proposal was executed on October 27 after receiving support from approximately 1.69 million ENS tokens, surpassing the required quorum. While the new system is live, there is no mandatory deadline for users to migrate their existing names.
