Ethereum roadmap updated to prioritize quantum security and AI
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has released an updated technical roadmap, referred to as the ‘Strawmap’, which shifts the network’s strategic priorities toward quantum resistance, privacy, and AI-assisted security.
Key technical shifts include a heightened focus on preparing for ‘Q-Day’ by implementing post-quantum cryptography and replacing vulnerable cryptographic components. The roadmap also elevates privacy from an optional feature to a foundational protocol requirement, exploring mechanisms like privacy pools and shielded transfers to protect user data on the public ledger.
Additionally, the plan integrates artificial intelligence to assist in formal verification, a process used to mathematically ensure protocol code functions as intended. This approach aims to manage the increasing complexity of the network. The Strawmap serves as a collaborative framework for developers through 2029, organizing potential upgrades across consensus, data, and execution layers.
