Ethereum stabilizes above 2,500 dollars despite massive whale sell-off
The cryptocurrency market has shown resilience in early September 2026, characterized by a mix of altcoin gains and institutional activity. Uniswap led market gains with a 23.45 percent increase, while Bitcoin and Ethereum rose by 2.59 percent and 1.89 percent, respectively.
Ethereum has faced a tug-of-war between significant selling pressure and institutional demand. A single whale sold 167,855 ETH, valued at approximately 408 million US dollars, which briefly pushed the price below 2,400 US dollars. However, the market recovered, with the price stabilizing above the 2,500 US dollar mark.
This recovery is supported by consistent inflows into US spot Ethereum ETFs, which have recorded twelve consecutive days of net inflows. Notably, BlackRock’s ETHA fund saw approximately 1.02 billion US dollars in inflows between August 17 and August 27. While Grayscale’s ETHE reported outflows, the overall ETF trend remains a key driver for Ethereum. Additionally, the Glamsterdam upgrade has been rescheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
