Ethereum to launch Glamsterdam upgrade on Sepolia testnet in October

Ethereum is set to activate its Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet on October 6. This milestone is a critical step in the network’s Layer 1 scaling roadmap, following the Fusaka update.

Glamsterdam is a major technical overhaul that combines the Amsterdam execution-layer update with the Gloas consensus-layer update. Key features include enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS), which integrates proposer-builder coordination directly into the Ethereum protocol to reduce reliance on third-party relays, and block-level access lists (BALs), which enable clients to process non-overlapping transactions in parallel to increase efficiency.

The upgrade also introduces gas repricing to better reflect the costs of state-access and state-creation. These changes are intended to support a roughly threefold increase in base throughput and address structural bottlenecks in the network. Core developer Parithosh Jayanthi noted that this could be Ethereum’s largest fork since The Merge. While testing continues on various devnets and public testnets, a mainnet rollout is currently targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026.
