Ethiopia conducts drone strikes on Eritrean troops in Tigray

In the Tigray region of Ethiopia, specifically around the city of Adigrat, evidence of recent military clashes remains visible. Burnt vehicle wreckage on roads marks the site of Ethiopian federal drone strikes targeting Eritrean troops who had deployed in the area.

According to security sources, several thousand Eritrean soldiers crossed the border into Tigray in early October to support the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) during their late September offensive against Ethiopian federal forces. Recent drone strikes by Addis Ababa have repelled both the Eritrean forces and the TPLF. While some Eritrean troops have reportedly retreated back to Eritrea, others remain near the Ethiopian border.

The escalation comes amid severed diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea, with both nations accusing each other of destabilization efforts. This heightened tension raises fears of a major conflict similar to the war between 1998 and 2000.
