Ethiopia conflict intensifies across Tigray and Amhara regions

Intense fighting has erupted across multiple fronts in Ethiopia, involving the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF), the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), and allied forces such as the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM).

In the Tigray-Amhara border region, clashes have been reported along the Kobo-Tumuga line and the Zata-Sekota line. Fighting has also been observed near the Tigray-Afar border, where the ENDF and the Tigray Peace Forces (a TPLF splinter faction) have reportedly joined forces. In Alamata, 21 airstrikes involving drones and MiG aircraft resulted in the deaths of 14 civilians and injuries to 22 others.

The TPLF has seized control of three regional airports in Mekelle, Axum, and Shire, leading to the suspension of all flights in those locations. Additionally, Eritrean troops have reportedly advanced into Western Tigray, and the ENDF has conducted drone strikes near the Eritrean border.

In the Amhara region, conflict continues to span 11 zones, including North Wollo, North Shewa, and various Gojjam and Gonder zones. Monitoring groups have recorded civilian casualties and drone activity across several woredas, noting that the conflict has intensified significantly.
