Ethiopia humanitarian crisis: Missionary warns of food shortages

Croatian missionary Josip Ivan Soldo has issued an urgent warning regarding the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia, stating that food supplies for refugees are nearly exhausted. Active conflict is reported to be occurring approximately 30 kilometers from his community.

Soldo, a member of the Salesians, noted that the local area currently hosts 18 refugee centers, with fears of more arrivals. The conflict has forced the closure of a youth center and a school, as many educational facilities have been converted into refugee housing. This has disrupted secondary education for local youth.

In addition to food shortages, the mission is facing challenges such as electricity and internet outages. The Salesians are also providing mobility aids, including wheelchairs and crutches, to assist those who have acquired disabilities due to the war. Soldo has called upon Croatian Caritas to provide assistance to meet the growing needs of the population.
