Ethiopia promotes regional integration and China-Africa cooperation
Ethiopia is advocating for increased regional integration and economic connectivity within the Horn of Africa. During a ministerial meeting of the Horn of Africa Initiative in Nairobi, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide highlighted key progress, including a refined petroleum pipeline between Ethiopia and Djibouti aimed at enhancing energy security and reducing logistics costs. Shide also emphasized Ethiopia's role in regional clean energy through the East African Power Pool and the operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
To strengthen regional resilience against climate shocks, Ethiopia supports the Horn of Africa Initiative’s efforts to move beyond emergency responses toward long-term mitigation. Additionally, the country supports the creation of a Regional Trade Facilitation Committee to streamline commerce.
In Addis Ababa, a photo exhibition was held to showcase the evolving cooperation between China and Africa. The exhibition features approximately 60 historical images documenting Chinese modernization, diplomatic exchanges, and the Belt and Road Initiative. The display highlights major infrastructure projects, such as the Aysha II Wind Power Plant in Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, ahead of the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations in 2026.
