Ethiopia reports 69% surge in tax revenue as Pakistan opens 2025‑26 filing season
Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenues announced that tax collections for the fiscal year ending July 7, 2026 rose by about 68.7%, reaching 1.518 trillion birr and achieving 101.24% of the set target. The increase reflects the government’s macro‑economic reform programme and the Medium‑Term Revenue Strategy that began in 2017, which has boosted the tax‑to‑GDP ratio and expanded the tax base.
In Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) opened the filing window for the 2025‑26 income‑tax year on July 27. Taxpayers must submit returns by September 30, 2026. FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial stressed that the filing season is key for assessing taxable income, collecting revenue and enhancing compliance under the amended Income Tax Ordinance of 2001.
