Ethiopia sets $13.4 billion export target for 2026/27

Ethiopia has set an ambitious export earnings target of $13.4 billion for the 2026/27 fiscal year. This goal represents approximately 20 percent growth from the previous period, during which the country recorded record export revenues of $11.2 billion, significantly exceeding the official $9.4 billion target.

Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe stated that the recent performance, driven largely by gold and coffee, provides a solid foundation for future growth. The government’s strategy aims to shift focus from increasing sheer volume to emphasizing value addition, product quality, and international competitiveness.

To achieve these targets, the ministry plans to modernize trade systems through digital platforms, diversify overseas markets, and improve logistics. The government intends to work closely with the private sector to resolve operational bottlenecks and ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves, supporting broader macroeconomic stability and recent currency reforms.
