Ethiopian Airlines announces new routes in South Africa and Mozambique

Ethiopian Airlines is expanding its African network with new flight services in South Africa and Mozambique.

Starting December 11, 2026, the airline will launch a daily non-stop service between Durban and Addis Ababa. Operating Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the route connects King Shaka International Airport to the Ethiopian hub, aiming to improve connectivity for tourism, business, and freight in the KwaZulu-Natal province by reducing the need to transit through Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Additionally, the airline will begin thrice-weekly passenger services to Nacala, Mozambique, on October 27, 2026. Using Boeing B737-8 aircraft, this service marks Ethiopian Airlines' third destination in Mozambique, joining Maputo and Beira. Group CEO Mesfin Tasew stated the expansion aims to bridge connectivity gaps and strengthen economic and diplomatic ties within the continent.
