Ethiopian embassies celebrate New Year and Unity Day

Ethiopian embassies in Pakistan and Kuwait recently held celebrations for Enkutatash (the Ethiopian New Year) and Hibir Ken (Unity in Diversity Day).

In Islamabad, the Ethiopian Embassy hosted an event under the theme “Diversity: Ethiopia’s Adornment.” The ceremony was attended by Pakistani government officials, including Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik. Ambassador Oumer Hussien Oba highlighted the growing relationship between Ethiopia and Pakistan, noting shared economic and environmental interests. He also extended an invitation for Pakistan to support Ethiopia’s bid to host COP32 in 2027.

In Kuwait, the Ethiopian Embassy marked the New Year and Hibir with traditional folk songs, dances, and coffee ceremonies. Ambassador Dr. Said Jibril described the occasion as a time for “renewal, hope, and new beginnings,” emphasizing Ethiopia’s role in the broader African narrative and expressing wishes for peace and prosperity across the continent.
