Ethiopian military displays weapons allegedly supplied by Eritrea and Sudan

The Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) have displayed a cache of seized weapons, including unmanned drones, to foreign military attachés in Addis Ababa. The ENDF claims the equipment was supplied by Eritrea and Sudan to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) rebels. These weapons were reportedly captured in Mekelle following the federal government's entry into the city.

Conflict is escalating as Ethiopian government troops have advanced to Zalambessa, a town on the border with Eritrea previously controlled by rebels. There are reports that Eritrean troops crossed into the area last week to support Tigrayan forces, though Eritrea has denied any incursion. In response to accusations from Addis Ababa, Asmara has appealed to the United Nations, arguing that Ethiopia's claims amount to a “declaration of war” and requesting deterrent measures.

The renewed fighting follows a TPLF-led offensive that has reignited tensions in the region. While Ethiopia continues its counter-offensive, local elections in parts of Tigray, including Mekelle, have faced criticism from residents who claim the process is not inclusive and is restricted to supporters of the Tigray Democratic Solidarity Party.
