Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed calls for civilian protection and African sovereignty
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed the XII Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa in Bahir Dar, emphasizing that lasting peace requires the protection of civilian populations and the defense of constitutional order.
During the forum, which runs from October 23 to 25 under the theme ‘Paths to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation,’ Ahmed highlighted the importance of the ‘Medemer’ philosophy—meaning synergy—to develop solutions rooted in local realities. He noted that decisions made outside of African borders significantly impact the continent's security and economic prospects.
Ahmed urged African nations to strengthen resilience by reinforcing economic sovereignty and deepening cooperation. He stated that Africa should not merely adapt to a changing global order but should actively contribute to shaping it.
