Ethnikos Piraeus signs Spanish midfielder Javier Matija

Ethnikos Piraeus has announced the signing of 38-year-old Spanish midfielder Javier Matija to strengthen their squad for the Gamma Ethniki division. The club described the move as a significant financial undertaking aimed at revitalizing the team following a difficult start to the season.

Matija, nicknamed “El Mago,” brings extensive experience from both the Spanish Primera Division and the Greek Super League. His previous clubs in Spain include Villarreal, Real Betis, Murcia, and Elche. In Greece, he has played for Aris, Volos, and most recently Athens Kallithea, where he served as captain and helped the team achieve promotion to the Super League.

The midfielder arrived in Greece on Thursday night and was met at the airport by Dimitris and Filippos Koulouris. He joins Ethnikos as they sit sixth in the eighth group of the Gamma Ethniki, seeking to improve their standing and push for promotion to the second division.
