Etihad Rail launches UAE passenger service, outlines full network rollout to 2027
The United Arab Emirates inaugurated its first passenger train service on 30 June 2026, linking Mohamed bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi with Al Hilal in Fujairah. The inaugural journey was attended by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who also opened the Abu Dhabi station.
Etihad Rail confirmed the locations and opening dates for all ten stations in the first phase of the network. After the two initial stations, Jumeirah Golf Estates (Dubai) and Al Dhaid will open on 30 September 2026, followed by Al Faya, Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, and Madinat Zayed on 30 December 2026. The final station, University City in Sharjah, is scheduled for 30 March 2027, completing the phase.
The fleet consists of 13 trains, each with a 400‑passenger capacity. Fares start at AED 55 for Comfort class and AED 120 for Premium class, with tickets available via the Etihad Rail mobile app since 23 June 2026. Officials say the rail network will shorten travel times, improve connectivity between major emirates and provide a modern alternative to road transport.
