Etiler Nursing Home residents convert lemon waste into essential oils

Residents of the Etiler Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Istanbul have participated in a project to transform kitchen waste into useful products. In collaboration with Biruni University, residents collected lemon peels from the facility's kitchen to prevent food waste.

During the process, residents worked alongside university faculty in a laboratory setting, using steam distillation to convert the peels into essential oils and hydrosols. The resulting products are now used for aromatherapy within the nursing home's common areas. Kerem Kaymaz, the director of the facility, stated that the initiative aims to reduce food waste and maintain the productivity of the elderly residents.
