Etinahole Project: Water to reach Tumakuru by late November
Water Resources Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy has announced that water from the Etinahole Project is expected to reach Tumakuru by the end of November. During a site inspection of the ‘Package 11’ construction work in Kanchiganahalli, Gubbi Taluk, the minister addressed administrative hurdles regarding forest clearances.
He noted that files for the second stage of forest department permission have been sent to New Delhi, with final clearance expected within a week. The minister emphasized the need for high-quality construction of the gravity canal, specifically instructing officials to use ‘cut and cover’ technology to prevent soil collapse during deep excavation work.
While the project's cost has risen from an initial 8,000 crore rupees to the current 23,000 crore rupees, the government remains committed to its completion for the benefit of farmers. Construction in the Tumakuru region is slated for completion by October 15 to ensure full water supply.
