Çetlüce Plateau attracts visitors with sea of fog and sunsets

Çetlüce Plateau, located in the Kürtün district of Gümüşhane at an altitude of 1,815 meters, has become a notable destination for nature and photography enthusiasts due to its unique atmospheric conditions.

The plateau is characterized by a phenomenon described as a ‘sea of fog,’ where thick clouds settle in the valleys, creating the sensation of walking above the clouds. During the day, dense fog can limit visibility, but as evening approaches, the movement of the fog and the setting sun create shifting landscapes. The sunset often casts orange and red hues across the fog layer, providing significant visual interest for visitors.

Local observers, including academic Dr. Merve Gençosmanoğlu, note that the rapid movement of the fog ensures the scenery is constantly changing. Photographer Metin Aydın also highlighted that while the area is frequently foggy, the weather often clears toward sunset, offering new perspectives. The region's biodiversity includes natural wild blueberries and various seasonal mushrooms.
