Etna DOC wine certifications grow 711% over thirteen years

The Etna DOC wine region has experienced significant growth over the last thirteen years. According to data from the Istituto Regionale del Vino e dell’Olio (IRVO) Observatory, certifications increased by 711% between 2012 and 2025, rising from 79 to 641. During the same period, the volume of certified wine grew by 390%, reaching over 46,000 hectoliters in 2025. The number of viticulturists has also more than doubled, increasing from 202 in 2012 to 509 in 2025.

To celebrate this development and the start of the harvest, the town of Randazzo is hosting the ‘Radici Vulcaniche’ festival on August 29 and 30. The event features 28 representative wineries, tastings, and masterclasses focused on Carricante and Nerello Mascalese grapes. The festival aims to discuss the economic and commercial prospects of Etna wines on the international market and promote enotourism on the slopes of Mount Etna. The event attracts international tour operators and buyers to highlight the strategic importance of Sicilian wine for the region's identity and economy.
