Etna: Hiker rescued after fall near Grotta del Gelo

A 62-year-old female hiker from Catania was injured after a fall near the Grotta del Gelo on the northern slope of Mount Etna. The incident occurred in the afternoon, resulting in a significant trauma to her upper limb.

Members of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) from the Etna North and Etna South stations responded to the emergency. The rescue operation involved a coordinated effort between the CNSAS, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Vigili del Fuoco.

Due to the rugged terrain, rescuers had to carry the woman on a stretcher along difficult paths to the Pista Altomontana. From there, she was transported via an all-terrain vehicle to the Ragabo Refuge, where she was met by an ambulance for transfer to a hospital.
