Etna hosts CAMILab technical visit for civil protection training

The CAMILab Master in ‘Multirisk Analysis and Civil Protection Planning’ has conducted its second technical field visit at Mount Etna. This educational initiative, funded by the MUR ‘Patti Territoriali dell’Alta Formazione’ project, aims to provide future specialists with direct contact with high-risk territories by combining theoretical lessons with practical case studies.

The program included sessions at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Catania, led by professors from the University of Calabria. Participants also attended seminars conducted by INGV geologists and visited the Osservatorio Etneo operational room. This facility serves as a high-availability computing hub that processes real-time data from monitoring networks across the Sicilian volcanic and epicentral field, including Etna and the Aeolian Islands. The visit focused on operational protocols for preventive control, hazard assessment, and the issuance of alerts to the Prefecture and Civil Protection.
