Etna wines face evolving challenges from weather and terroir

At an event organized by Vini Milo and the Municipality of Milo, experts discussed the evolution of Etna wines in the context of changing weather patterns. The discussion highlighted how annual weather conditions, rather than long-term climate averages, directly impact the vine and influence harvest timing.

Participants noted that recent vintages tend to produce fresher, more immediate wines, whereas older vintages offer greater depth. Enologist Salvo Foti emphasized the importance of the relationship between the cultivar and the terroir, noting that continuous research into the performance of Carricante and Nerello Mascalese is essential for maintaining territorial identity.
