Eton College implements stricter iPad restrictions for students
Eton College, the prestigious British boarding school, has announced stricter restrictions on iPad usage for its first-year students, known internally as ‘F Block’. Under the new guidelines, students will no longer have free access to the internet on their devices. Instead, they will be required to use a protected browser that limits access to a ‘white list’ of websites approved by teachers.
The policy change follows significant pressure from parents who expressed concerns regarding screen addiction and the misuse of devices for gaming or unrestricted browsing. In a letter sent to the school's headmaster, more than one hundred families described the previous management of school iPads as a ‘failure of leadership’ and a lack of duty to protect students, particularly the most vulnerable.
The announcement comes shortly after the arrival of Prince George at the institution. The move aligns with the known parenting approach of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who have previously spoken about limiting their children's screen time.
