Eton College implements privacy measures for Prince George

Eton College has implemented new privacy measures, including “No Photography” signage on its perimeter fences, ahead of Prince George’s enrollment this September. The 13-year-old, second in line to the British throne, will transition to full-time boarding at the historic institution, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William.

The school’s decision to reinforce security and privacy protocols aims to protect the students from intense media scrutiny and public attention. While the school noted these measures are part of a broader safeguarding program for all pupils, the timing coincides with the arrival of the future king.

To further manage digital exposure, Eton has implemented a policy where students are not permitted to use internet-connected smartphones. Instead, they are provided with basic handsets for essential calls and texts. This approach aligns with the efforts of the Prince and Princess of Wales to provide their children with a relatively normal upbringing. There is speculation that a formal agreement with the press, similar to the one brokered for Prince William in 1995, may be established to ensure the prince’s privacy during his school years.
