ETRI and Korea Military Academy to develop AI combat glasses

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Military Academy to develop AI-based defense technologies. A primary focus of this collaboration is the development of ‘AI-In-Glass,’ a wearable device designed to act as a personal AI assistant for combatants.

This technology aims to enhance situational awareness and decision-making by providing real-time information directly to a soldier's field of vision. The project will integrate four core technologies: spatial intelligence for object recognition, personal AI agents, low-power high-resolution displays, and AR device hardware. The initiative seeks to extend command and control capabilities from higher-level units down to small squads and individual soldiers.

Supported by a 45 billion won strategic research project spanning five years through 2030, the partnership will also focus on defense networks, human-AI collaboration, and ensuring the safety and reliability of AI decisions in military operations. The Korea Military Academy will contribute expertise in tactical procedures and provide facilities for field testing and evaluation.
