EU AI Act compliance depends on data resilience, Veeam executive warns

From 2 August, the EU AI Act imposes mandatory transparency and labeling rules for AI systems, including disclosure of AI‑generated content and user‑information obligations. Tim Pfälzer, General Manager and Senior Vice President for EMEA at Veeam, says the new deadline should be viewed as a starting point for building a robust data infrastructure rather than a final compliance check.

He warns that “it is not enough to simply tick a compliance box”; companies must redesign their entire data landscape to create reliable audit trails, clear governance frameworks, and resilient backup and recovery processes. An EMEA survey commissioned by Veeam found 63 % of respondents consider regulatory ambiguities a significant compliance risk, underscoring the need for proactive data‑centric governance to meet the Act’s transparency and accountability demands.
