EU Grants €120 million to Moldova for Air‑Defence System
The European Union Council approved a €120 million assistance package under the European Peace Facility to finance a medium‑range air‑defence system for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova. The funding complements earlier EU support for air‑surveillance and air‑defence, bringing total EU assistance to Moldova to €317 million. The aid is intended to improve operational efficiency, enhance protection of civilians and secure Moldovan airspace after recent Russian drone incursions, including a Shahed‑type drone that fell near Copanca. Moldovan officials, including Foreign‑Ministry spokespersons and President Maia Sandu in Paris, welcomed the measure, linking Moldova’s defence to regional stability and the broader European security agenda.
