EU and China reach trade agreements during Beijing consultations
During the second EU-China Trade and Investment Consultations (TIC) held in Beijing on October 8–9, 2026, officials from both sides engaged in discussions regarding trade stability and bilateral relations. Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič led the talks, which resulted in a list of agreements aimed at managing differences within WTO frameworks.
Key outcomes include an agreement regarding the trade of hybrid vehicles in accordance with WTO rules. Both parties also committed to continuing procedures regarding price undertakings and reviews of battery electric vehicles (BEV). Additionally, the parties will continue dialogue on market access for medical products, with the EU noting China's efforts to increase imports of European medical goods.
To maintain momentum, a ministerial video conference is scheduled for January, with a third TIC ministerial meeting planned for March 2027. The parties also agreed to continue exploring the possibility of reducing or eliminating tariffs on certain goods and to strengthen communication through trade monitoring mechanisms.
