EU and European airlines issue travel arrival and passenger‑rights guidance

Several European low‑cost carriers have published recommended arrival times for passengers. Ryanair advises arriving at the airport two hours before departure and being at the gate at least 30 minutes before the flight. Jet2 also recommends a two‑hour arrival, with check‑in desks closing 40 minutes before departure; passengers traveling with hand luggage only can arrive 90–120 minutes early. TUI suggests a two‑and‑a‑half‑hour arrival for short‑ and medium‑haul flights and three‑and‑a‑half hours for long‑haul journeys. easyJet recommends a two‑hour arrival, with check‑in closing 40 minutes before departure and boarding finishing 30 minutes before take‑off.

The European Union’s passenger‑rights framework protects travelers in cases of flight cancellations, overbooking, denied boarding, delays, lost luggage, and other transport disruptions across air, rail, bus, and sea services. Passengers should first contact the carrier using its complaint form; if no satisfactory reply is received within the statutory periods (one month for rail, two months for airlines and ships, three months for buses) they may lodge a complaint with the national authority or seek assistance from the European Consumer Centre. Alternative dispute resolution is available to EU residents. Revised EU air‑passenger‑rights rules, adopted in July 2026, introduce clearer baggage information, free assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, and streamlined compensation procedures.
